Last Autumn, the Years 5 and 6 children in Cheriton Primary researched a member of their family who had taken part in WW1. They all made a war memorial in memory of that person out of scrap materials and papier mache. The whole project took one afternoon a week for five weeks. On 11 November we had a special service of remembrance in Cheriton Church to which parents and members of the community were invited. The children presented their memorials to the rector who placed  them in the chancel. The Years 3 and 4 children had made giant poppies and one was placed on each memorial. We also had readings and songs and the ‘Last Post’ was played on a tenor recorder. Following our service we all went, in the rain, to the village war memorial to observe the two minutes’ silence.

The photographs show the children walking up the church path carrying their memorials, prior to the service.
