Armistice

Secondary school pupil studying a war memorial © SLemieux, 2012World War I was brought to an end with the signing of the Armistice on 11th November 1918.  This date is still significant today and marked by Remembrance services which commemorate those who lost their lives during World War I and subsequent conflicts.  Towards the end of the World War I centenary, events took place on a national and local scale to remember what took place in a railway carriage in a forest in France 100 years previously.

These materials were developed to mark the centenary of the Armistice.  They provide activities which help secondary school pupils understand the events leading up to, on and after the signing of the Armistice on 11th November 1918 and the public reaction to this particularly if exploring in the lead up to Remembrance Day.

In addition to the materials in this section an assembly on the theme of Armistice Day has been developed.

War Memorials Trust gratefully acknowledges the support of the Tanner Trust which has made the development of these resources possible.
