Helpsheets for primary teachers

Child studying a war memorial © J Peach-Miles, 2012War Memorials Trust has produced a series of helpsheets to give information for teachers and other adults working on war memorial projects with children.

These helpsheets have been designed to give teachers background knowledge about the topics covered in War Memorials Trust’s lesson plans and activities for young people. They cover essential information about the historical and current issues facing war memorials, as well as guidance on how to include war memorials in your school’s curriculum.

We are also developing some helpsheets and other materials about key events during the World War I Centenary which may help with commemoration events young people are involved in. These can be found using the links to the left.

Older pupils or members of youth groups can also use these help sheets to inform their own war memorial related projects.

Please use the links below to download our helpsheets. If you require information about a topic that is not included here, please contact War Memorials Trust’s Learning Officer.

Further information

Secondary school teachers can access secondary helpsheets in the Secondary section of this website.

Guidance on war memorial conservation and other topics can be found on War Memorials Trust’s main website.
